Beta Theta Pi at IU entered its second hundred years 63 years ago. A remarkable Pi Chapter history occurred during those first hundred years at IU. I fervently hope an alumnus writer will document the second hundred years in time for a celebration in 2045, just as Karl Fischer ’25 did back in 1945.
Each year of Pi’s historic link to IU commands our admiration and our participation. No other fraternity on the IU campus possesses our rich history. Yet other fraternities surpass Pi in financial support. Here are the six oldest IU fraternities and how they compare with Beta in donor support:
• Beta Theta Pi, established in 1845
• Sigma Chi, established in 1858, 27% more than Beta
• Phi Kappa Psi, established in 1869, 16% more than Beta
• Phi Delta Theta, established in 1849, 10% more than Beta
• Phi Gamma Delta, established in 1871, 7% more than Beta
• Delta Tau Delta, established in 1870, 13% less than Beta
Building on the excellent results of the just-completed Heritage of Pi capital campaign, our chapter must continue ask for annual donations, especially from those who did not give to the capital campaign.
The fundraising arm of our chapter, the Marching Along Educational Foundation Inc., is embarking on an annual campaign, and we look forward to your participation.
This annual campaign will provide scholarship support and endow care and maintenance of the chapter house’s educational areas. We’re up to the challenge. I’m certain of it.
